The Horror Writers Association (HWA) has decided to change StokerCon
2021 “from an in-person event to a virtual platform” according to a special announcement posted on the StokerCon
2021 site.
Our hope is to preserve the spirit of StokerCon
™ and create an event that will resemble as closely as possible our usual programming panels, presentations, interviews, author readings, ceremonies, and the Bram Stoker Awards
® presentation. At this time our plans include the Ann Radcliffe Academic Conference, Librarians’ Day, Horror University, and the Final Frame Film Competition. And while we won’t be able to gather in the same place, all attendees of this virtual StokerCon
Paula Guran started her
The Year’s Best Dark Fantasy & Horror series in 2010 with Prime Books. After working as a senior editor for Prime for seven years, Guran parted ways with the company and published the final installment in that series in 2019. Guran returns in 2020 with no time to spare, restarting the series at volume one with new publisher Pyr – a company which, coincidentally, had also seen some major changes: they were sold by Prometheus Books in 2018 and picked up by Start Media. Despite being slightly trimmer than previous volumes,
The Year’s Best Dark Fantasy & Horror: Volume One stays true to form, presenting an excellent assortment of work, drawing from best-selling and award-winning authors established outside of dark fantasy and horror, such as Pat Cadigan, Maria Dahvana Headley, Ellen Klages, Ken Liu, Carmen Maria Machado, Joyce Carol Oates, Sarah Pinsker, and Fran Wilde; as well as authors who will excite the horror and dark fantasy fans, such as Mariss
Only living authors and editors are eligible. All books must have a 2020 publication date, and all magazines a 2020 cover date. All forms of fantasy are eligible, e.g. high, epic, dark, contemporary, literary. Categories: Life Achievement; Best Novel; Best Novella (10,001 to 40,000 words); Best Short Story; Best Anthology; Best Collection; Best Artist; Special Award Professional; Special Award Non-Professional. A word count should be included for works shorter than novel length, for the judges’ benefit.
The awards will be presented at the World Fantasy Convention, November 4 – November 7, 2021 at the Hôtel Bonaventure Montréal in Québec, Canada. See the World Fantasy 2021 site or the World Fantasy convention home page for more.
